Carbolic acid, also known as phenol, is a flammable, white, crystalline, volatile, aromatic organic compound. It has the molecular formula C6H5OH and is the simplest member of the phenol family of organic compounds.

Carbolic acid is used as an antimicrobial agent in pesticides, insecticides, and herbicides. It is also used as a snake repellent because it is highly corrosive to the skin and snakes will die within minutes of coming into contact with it.

Usage :

Phenol is used primarily in the production of phenolic resins and in the manufacture of nylon and other synthetic fibers. It is also used in slimicides (chemicals that kill bacteria and fungi in slimes), as a disinfectant and antiseptic, and in medicinal preparations such as mouthwash and sore throat lozenges.
